Ella Niederhelman '27

My focus in ESPP is grounded in the intersection of climate and health. I am currently most interested in environmental law and finding effective solutions and adaptation strategies for those at the frontlines of climate change. Further, I am interested in the clean energy transition, permitting, and regulation.

I am a double concentrator in ESPP and Science & Society, with a secondary in Earth & Planetary Sciences. My background is in climate reporting, environmental journalism, and translating science to the general public. I have spent years working with the Center for Climate, Health, & the Global Environment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School for Public Health (C-CHANGE), and have since conducted research across the Salata Institute for Climate & Sustainability, Harvard Business School’s Business & Environment Initiative, Harvard Law School, and the Climate Sociology Lab.

On campus, I have reported on the science division, Longwood Medical Area, research, faculty and funding cuts for The Crimson. I am on board of the Harvard Undergraduate Clean Energy Group (HUCEG), where I help to coordinate and develop initiatives and opportunities. I am also Kirkland House Committee Chair, and frequently strive to bring climate-related projects to the House.

I am a Cameron Impact Scholar, and my ‘impact’ has been grounded in environmental science, journalism, and community. I believe that ESPP has one of the strongest communities on Harvard's campus, and I am so grateful to be a part of such an engaging, interdisciplinary, and supportive program.
