Math/Stat Course Options

ESPP Mathematics/Statistics Requirements

Students are required to take two courses (8 credits) in mathematics and/or statistics.  The minimum requirement is Math 1a and Math 1b.  For students who place into Math Ma three courses are required:  Math Ma, Mb and Math 1b.  Students who place into Math 1b are required to take Math 1b and one additional math/stat course; students who place beyond Math 1b are required to take two additional math/stat courses*.

*Students who place in or beyond Math 1b, may select their other math/statistics course(s) from the following list: 

  • Math 18A: Multivariable Calculus for Social Sciences
  • Math 18B/19B: Linear Algebra, Probability, and Statistics
  • Math 19A: Modeling and Differential Equations for the Life Sciences
  • Math 21A: Multivariable Calculus
  • Math 21B: Linear Algebra and Differential Equations
  • Math 22A: Vector Calculus and Linear Algebra I
  • Math 22B: Vector Calculus and Linear Algebra II
  • APMTH 22A: Solving and Optimizing
  • APMTH 50: Introduction to Applied Mathematics
  • ECON 50: Using Big Data to Solve Economic and Social Problems
  • GOV 50: Data Science for the Social Sciences
  • PSYCH 1900: Introduction to Statistics for the Behavorial Sciences
  • STAT 100: Introduction to Statistics and Data Science
  • STAT 102: Introduction to Statistics for the Life Sciences

Courses listed in bold/italics  have overlapping content; only one of these may be counted for concentration credit. Students may petition to have higher level math/statistics courses satisfy the math/statistics requirement.
